6th Class Forest School Pilot Programme

For six weeks this term, Ms Beardsley and a fellow trainee ran the first RPNS Forest School pilot sessions as part of her training to become a Forest School leader. During this period, half the class spent two hours outside in local woodlands engaging in nature based activities with 2 trained adult facilitators. This allowed for a lot of exploration and investigative child-led learning and was based around the seasons. Subjects covered during the six weeks included maths, literacy, SPHE, geography, science, history, STEM, Gaeilge, art and drama. Just some of the activities included: making nettle pesto, nettle tea, blackberry leaf tea, elderflower cordial, studying native trees and wild plants, making objects using traditional nature based crafts, mindfulness, meditation and nature based games. It was a great experience for us all.
