On Friday, 5th class went out for a nest building challenge in the junior yard with Ms Scannell. The children worked in their pods and were given 12 minutes to build a nest using materials from the ground. Items like moss, stickleback, twigs and leaves were used. As well as building nests with natural materials, each group also had to find a safe, hidden and protected spot for their nests, safe from foxes, weather and small children. 5th class recorded their ideas and designs, and once they were finished, they reviewed what they might change if they could. After the 12 mins was up, Ms Scannell let each group show their nests to the class. She had a small plastic egg that she would put in to test each nest while the class watched. It was a really enjoyable outdoor STEM activity.
